Hiroshige & Toyokuni III — "Hiratsuka" from the Dual-Brush Tōkaidō

This woodblock print unites two Edo masters: Toyokuni III painted the beauty, Hiroshige rendered the landscape — Mount Fuji rising blue above the Sagami River near Hiratsuka, Station 9.

Known as Sōhitsu Tōkaidō ("Dual-Brush Tōkaidō"), this series united the era's two greatest masters in a single composition. On the lower left, a lacquered tray with a bowl and chopsticks hints at a quiet rest at a hatago inn.

Two signatures, two visions — one unforgettable image.
